Mr Vuyo Mdunyelwa attended the 4th (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) BRICS Young Scientist Forum (YSF), which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 6 – 8 November.

In order for Nr Mdunyelwa to participate in this forum, he submitted an abstract on his PhD work and a motivation, which was accepted. He then had to present it at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics. The YSF runs yearly and has certain topics that they focus on, and this year’s topics were cyber security and bio-economy, and also invited young science innovators.

We presented and at the end the group was invited to a forum discussion on their subject matter.

With the presentations, there were topics discussed, such as Women in Science, and Science diplomacy.

This year’s BRICS YSF will be hosted by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC) of Brazil, and was a high-level meeting attended by delegates from the BRICS countries.
