Learners in Nelson Mandela Bay has again been exposed to the excitement and benefits of science and technology as the Nelson Mandela University’s School of Information Communication Technology hosted the regional qualifying tournament for the First Lego League (FLL) challenge on 18-19 October 2019.
 
Mr Vuyo Mdunyelwa attended the 4th (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) BRICS Young Scientist Forum (YSF), which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 6 – 8 November. 

Congratulations to the CRICS team on being awarded the ISACA SA Contribution Award!

Congratulations to Lwando Ngcama on being selected for the Seeds of the Future trip to China last year.

SICT 2019 Faculty Award Recipients. 
The IITPSA EC Chapter and the Nelson Mandela University School of ICT hosted the 2nd Annual Women in IT Networking Breakfast on 14 August 2019, at Savages Fine Dining, with Professor Margaret Cullen as a guest speaker. 
Mr Vuyolwethu Mdunyelwa and Prof Lynn Futcher attended the 12th World Information Security Education Conference ,which was held at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa, from 25th to 27th June. This conference was co-located with the 34th IFIP ICT Systems Security and Privacy Protection Conference (IFIP SEC2019).

The School of ICT hosted the annual FIRST LEGO League on 12 and 13 October 2018 at the Nelson Mandela University, New Engineering Building, with over 10 teams participating. Every year, FIRST LEGO League releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic, this year we are going INTO ORBIT (SM).

 The School of ICT had the honour of hosting the 2018 Annual Conference of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT). The conference took place at the Boardwalk Hotel, Convention Center and Spa from 26 - 28 September 2018. On the 26th SAICSIT hosted a symposium for Masters and Doctoral students; with the main conference taking place on 27 - 28 September 2018.
Congratulations to Rahul Maharaj and Wiehan Janse van Rensburg, who recently presented two research papers at the HAISA 2018 conference.
 

On the 27th July 2018, students of the School of Information and Communication Technology (SICT), hosted a 36 hour Hackathon in R128 on North Campus.

Centre for Community Technologies (CCT) Director at Nelson Mandela University, Prof Darelle van Greunen, recently attended the installation of Glasgow Caledonian University’s new Chancellor, singer, songwriter, political activist and philanthropist, Annie Lennox. 

Professor Darelle van Greunen, the Director of the Centre for Community Technologies at Nelson Mandela University, has received an Honorary Professorship from Amity University (India).

Congratulations to Vuyolwethu Mdunyelwa and Karen Church on being award recipients at the Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa (IITPSA) Eastern Cape Awards Ceremony, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel on 23 May 2018.
