Ncediso™ Health care app wins top award at UN Commission

Nelson Mandela University's Centre of Community Technologies’ home-grown healthcare app ended in the top three and won the top innovation award in the category of High Social Impact at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa hosted by Zimbabwe.

"Africa has the ability to leapfrog the rest of the world with the modernized app. The world has faced a lot of challenges but with the global change, we can not only convert the continent and lead them through innovation," Prof Darelle van Greunen.

The Centre has developed an application to make healthcare and medical information more accessible to those with limited resources. Many Ncediso™ users has graded the app has the best so far, Every now and then, people send messages to share how the App is helping them in their daily lives. The top users are namely community healthcare workers, to the person in the street, Uber drivers, students, teachers, factory workers – the list goes on. The App has also been well received in other parts of Africa"

With the help of investors, the Centre aims to multiply the App to include live interaction with healthcare staff close to the user and to add a dynamic list of the closest healthcare facilities, to assist with quicker access to a facility or healthcare worker once certain symptoms have been identified using the App. The feedback gotten from the app is quite tremendous according to the comments majority say it’s a very useful app. It has helped many in dealing with burnt and wounds etc.
